SNOW REMOVAL
Vehicles should not be parked on city streets from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when snow has accumulated to a depth of two inches or more. Vehicles should remain off the streets until the snowfall has ceased and the city maintenance crew has completed plowing the streets. Snow from driveways, sidewalks and parking lots should not be deposited on city streets. Property owners are responsible for the removal of snow from public sidewalks in front of their property.
WEED AND TRASH CONTROL
If a complaint is filed or a violation is observed in reference to the city's code of ordinances, the Minimum Weed and Trash Ordinance (the Community Service Office working for the Police Department) will issue the property owner a letter giving the owner ten days to correct the problem. If the problem is not alleviated within the ten-day period, the property owner can be ticketed for a violation of the ordinance and will be required to appear in court. The minimum fine for this offense is seventy-five dollars.
YARD WASTE PICKUP
There is a seasonal fee for yard waste pickup as the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency prohibits the dumping of yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, garden residue and small twigs) at landfills. Residents must contact Republic Services at (563) 332-0050 to sign up for the Subscription Yard Waste Program which will run from April 1st through November 30th. You may also start your yard waste pickup on October 1st through November 30th. Republic Services will then place the resident's address on their weekly pickup list. All yard waste must be contained in brown paper lawn bags, NO STICKERS NEEDED. The yard waste pickup day will be every WEDNESDAY; please have bags out curbside by 7:00 a.m.
