The City of Silvis (initially named Pleasant Valley) was incorporated in 1906. The City took its name from Richard Shippen Silvis, one of the original settlers whose family operated the Silvis Mining Company. Silvis is on a growing edge of this bi-state area and will continue to be a City of Progress.
Silvis is a member of a large regional area known as the Quad Cities. The Quad Cities region is situated across four counties in Illinois and Iowa. Silvis, Illinois is the first community you come to when entering the Quad Cities from the East on Interstate 88. Only 4 miles from the intersection Interstate 80 & 88 access to markets in Chicago, Des Moines and Omaha are just a few hours away.
Annual Host to the PGA John Deere Classic
TPC Deere Run’s golf course is built on the site of a former Arabian horse farm. Course architect and former PGA TOUR professional D.A. Weibring masterfully used the natural, rolling landscape to create a championship golf course that stretches along the picturesque wooded ravines of the area’s famous Rock River.
TPC Deere Run has been honored by Golf Digest, ranking No. 42 among the United States’ 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses. Golfweek Magazine has also ranked TPC Deere Run among the top five courses in the state of Illinois.
Since 2000, TPC Deere Run has been the home of the PGA TOUR's annual John Deere Classic. The John Deere Classic is held in July the week before the British Open and draws some of the PGA TOUR’s top talent.

The Silvis Police Department is one of six 911 call centers in Rock Island County and the dispatch center also provides services for Barstow Fire, Hampton Fire and Hampton Police Department.

Silvis Public Library
The Silvis Public Library is a member of the RiverShare Library Consortium. Our library offers Adult Programming, Family Story Time, and Summer Reading Programs. We have in-house internet (including wi-fi) that is accessible to patrons and non-residents. Reservations are available for the use of our Quiet Room (seating for up to 6). Our website offers links to the RiverShare online catalog, downloadable books, Chilton Automotive Repair Online, Gale Virtual Reference Library, and Career Transitions.

Silvis also has access to two major medical centers that include a critical access center located in Silvis. Genesis Medical Center offers health-care services to a 10-county, bi-state region of the Quad Cities metropolitan area and the surrounding communities of Iowa and Illinois. Parks, Memorials, Recreation & Activities
The city of Silvis maintains nine beautiful parks, each with unique features, themes, and activities. Complete with everything from grottos, memorials, shelters, ball diamonds, playgrounds, and nature trails to ball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, soccer, and pickleball courts, these grounds are spread throughout the city and are utilized by our citizens throughout the year.
Silvis is a deeply patriotic community, home to Hero Street USA, a Memorial to 8 immigrant sons who gave their lives in the defense of freedom in World War II and the Korean War. More than 100 residents from the 25 homes that lined 2nd Street—before it was renamed Hero Street—served in the military.
