Want to be a Silvis volunteer firefighter?
Applications can be dropped off at the Silvis City Hall (121 11th St., Silvis, IL 61282) or emailed to jwinter@silvisfd.org.
Nationally, the number of volunteer and paid-on-call firefighters has reduced by almost 25% over the last 30 years while call volume has grown by nearly 270%. The academy will provide those interested in being firefighters with a basic understanding of safety, personal protective equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, hoses, nozzles and water streams and hand and power tools used in the fire service.
Once the academy is complete, graduates will then start taking part in department-wide training and responding to calls.
