City Clerk Jim Nelson is a 50 year resident of Silvis. Jim served as a Medic in the U.S. Army, from 1971 until 1974. Jim attended Blackhawk College and received a certificate in Labor Studies, in 1976. Jim has been active in organizations throughout the City of Silvis. Jim is a retired member of Teamsters Local #371; retiring in June of 2009, after 25 years as a Teamster.
Jim vows to maintain the professionalism and courteous service that the citizens of Silvis have come to expect from the Silvis City Clerk's Office, while moving forward with technology and maintaining the records for the future citizens of Silvis.
Jim was first elected Silvis City Clerk in 2009. Jim is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Municipal Clerks of Illinois, and the Central Illinois Municipal Clerks Organization. Clerk Nelson completed Municipal Clerks Institute in 2009, 2010, and 2011. In November of 2011, Clerk Nelson had the title of Registered Municipal Clerk conferred upon him by the Municipal Clerks of Illinois. Clerk Nelson continues to attend Municipal Clerks Academy, presented by the Municipal Clerks of Illinois and the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs. The International Institute of Municipal Clerks conferred the title of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC), in February 2014. Clerk Nelson has put an emphasis on education and networking with Municipal Clerks throughout the State of Illinois, in order to be able to better serve the residents of Silvis and make information available to all citizens of Silvis.
Jim has appointed Andrea Gryp of Silvis as his Deputy Clerk. Andrea is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Municipal Clerks of Illinois and the Central Illinois Municipal Clerks Organization. Andrera is currently attending the Municipal Clerk's of Illinois Institute presented by Eastern Illinois University. It is anticipated Andrea will receive her Registered Municpal Clerks designation in the fall of 2017.
